God of War Ragnarok introduces various side quests known as Favours that expand the lore and challenge players with intense boss battles. The Path of Destruction favour takes Kratos deep into the hidden regions of Vanaheim to hunt down a massive dragon. Completing this optional hunt rewards players with rare resources necessary for crafting high-tier equipment.
How to Unlock the Favour in the Jungle
Before players can track down the beast, they must first complete the Return of the River quest in the Jungle region of Vanaheim. Flooding the area grants access to hidden waterways and paths that were previously unreachable by boat. Additionally, players must ensure that the game world is set to daytime, as certain pathways remain closed during the night cycle.
Once the conditions are met, navigate the boat toward the Jungle Entrance Mystic Gateway and dock at the nearby platform. Ascend the stone stairs and clear out the local enemies, focusing on the Nokkens first to prevent them from healing the larger trolls. Cross the newly accessible wooden bridge and follow the massive paw prints along the dirt path to initiate the quest officially.
Solving the Elevator Cage Puzzle
The quest leads to a circular stone structure where the target creature usually nests, though the arena is initially empty. Drop down into the massive hole in the center of the area to find an enclosed wooden cage elevator. To progress, players must solve a mechanical puzzle that involves raising the platform to trap live bait.
Look upward and throw Kratos's axe at the wooden spinning paddle to raise the elevator gates. Players running the game at higher frame rates might experience a known mechanical bug where the gate does not raise fully. Adjusting the graphics settings to a lower frame rate or using a rapid secondary throw can fix this timing issue. Once the gate is elevated, freeze the gears below by throwing the Leviathan Axe directly into them.
Trapping the Bait and Baiting the Drake
Step outside the elevated cage area carefully without alerting or killing the wild hound-like Gullons roaming nearby. Lure these creatures toward the open enclosure so they wander directly beneath the raised wooden gates. Recall the axe to drop the platform instantly, trapping the wild beasts safely inside the cage structure.
Move around to the exterior side of the enclosure and pull the heavy iron chain to lift the trapped bait upward. This action triggers a cutscene indicating that the apex predator has returned to its nest to investigate the noise. Return to the upper arena by climbing the nearby stone walls to face the legendary creature in combat.
Defeating the Slag Horn Boss
The Slag Horn is a powerful prehistoric drake that relies heavily on charging maneuvers and sweeping tail strikes. Position Kratos along the flanks of the monster to consistently damage its legs while staying safe from frontal jaw snaps. Watch out for its unblockable red-ringed stomp attacks, which require precise backward dodging to completely avoid damage.
As the beast enters its final health bars, it will increase its aggression and execute longer attack combinations. Maintain patience and utilize Spartan Rage to regain health during critical moments of the encounter. Defeating the creature officially completes the favour and awards valuable materials like Dragon Teeth and Dragon Claws.
